Acuc Crossover

Home » Acuc Crossover

Program for certified instructors from other organizations members of RSTC or CMAS, and other organizations recognized by ACUC, who wish to make a crossover to ACUC.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

At ACUC we recognized the training that you have already received and the experience that you have already gained. We know that you worked hard for it. Because of it, we do not intend to teach you how to be an Instructor again, but there are some things that we must check and some others that we must show you. Therefore, the ACUC crossover program consists of three main parts:

1. One where you show us what you think.
2. One where you show us what you know.
3. One where we tell you about ACUC.

PART 1: WHERE YOU SHOW US WHAT YOU THINK

This part consists of a psycho technical evaluation, which depending on the number of people in the program and preferences of the Instructor Trainer Evaluator may be made in writing or answering some simple questions, in a conversation between the evaluator and the candidate.

PART 2: THIS SHOWS US WHAT YOU KNOW:

You should do:

1. A written exam on the following topics:
· ACUC Policies and Procedures
· Physiology and its relationship with diving
· General Diving Knowledge
· Scuba Rescue
· Teaching Techniques
· Decompression Tables: ACUC Tables based on the DCIEM (Defense and Civil Institute for Environmental Medicine - Canada) model.
· Marketing Techniques

Do not worry, we expect you to fail in the ACUC Procedures and Standards and the ACUC tables section (unless you're already familiar with these tables). We will not be surprised if you fail also in the Marketing Techniques section because your idea of marketing might be quite different from ours, and you may also fail in the section on teaching techniques, because our techniques and training system could be different than the one you use.

If you fail these sections, nothing will happen because these are some of the subjects covered in the 3rd part of the program. However, as an instructor, we do not expect you to fail the Physiology, General Knowledge or Scuba Rescue sections. These sections are basically the same regardless of the organization you come from.

The reason why we need this written examination is not only because we like to see what you know, but also for legal reasons, since ACUC must have a written record of your knowledge.

Please understand this point and do not feel offended by it.

2. At least two oral presentations in class:

· One on a theme relating to diving, your choice
· One on a theme relating to diving, our choice

3. At least two full cycle practical presentations (out of the water, in the water, out of water). These presentations are usually done in the pool:

· One on a topic of your choice · One on a topic of our choice

4. A simulated demonstration of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

5. A demonstration in the pool of Scuba Rescue.

As you are already an instructor with another organization, we expect to see demonstrations of a quality typical of an Instructor in all these areas.

PART 3: WHERE WE TELL YOU ABOUT ACUC:

If your performance is deemed adequate, then we will proceed to the 3rd and final part of the program where we will tell you about:

1. ACUC.
2. ACUC Standards
3. ACUC Materials
4. ACUC procedures

Depending on the outcome of the evaluation of the 2nd Part of the program, the Instructor evaluator could also review with the candidates the following subjects:

· Teaching Techniques
· ACUC Decompression Tables
· Marketing Techniques

THE BEGINNING OF A NEW RELATIONSHIP

Once all these steps have been carried out satisfactorily you will become an ACUC Instructor. You will be part of a proud, fast growing, high quality and progressive organization. An organization known throughout the world for its quality, safety and high standards.

There is one more thing you should know. ACUC Instructor you should have the following two specialties: First Aid and Oxygen Provider. Also they must have an excellent knowledge of Scuba Rescue, if not, you will be asked to take the ACUC Rescue course.

We understand that you just joined ACUC and therefore, it is quite illogical for us to ask you that you already have this. For this reason, we give you up to 6 months after you get your ACUC Instructor certification to complete these requirements.

If you already have similar specialties of another organization, they can be accepted by ACUC. Your Instructor Trainer will explain how this can be done during the crossover program.

We hope this has explained what an ACUC crossover is. If you have any questions, feel free to call, fax, email or write the ACUC Delegate in your country or one of 2 main ACUC offices (Canada and Spain).

We're here to help you and we would like to have the opportunity to show you firsthand that with ACUC, you are considered a valuable person and not just a number.
